Sad news for Pretty Woman Julia Roberts this week. The actress' mom lost her battle with lung cancer at the age of 80.

According to People, Betty Lou Bredemus died early Thursday morning in Los Angeles. Her death comes a year after Roberts lost her half-sister Nancy Motes, who committed suicide last spring.

Bredemus, who once ran an acting school in Georgia, is survived by her three children Eric Roberts, 58, Julia Roberts, 47 and Lisa Gillan, 49 and her grandchildren, actress Emma Roberts, 24, and the Erin Brockovich star's three children: twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, 10, and Henry, 7.

The actress was seen dressed in head-to-toe black while visiting her mother's home in West Los Angeles Thursday just hours after she passed with close friends by her side providing support and a shoulder to cry on.

The 80-year-old was reportedly living with the Oscar winner and her family in the final months of her life, but peacefully passed away at St John's Health Center in Santa Monica.

Julia opened up to People about how she first realized she had become a celebrity when she went to go see a film with her mom shortly after starring in 1988's Mystic Pizza.

"The first time I felt famous was when I went to the movies with my mom," Julia told People in 2002, noting that another theatergoer had recognized the actress from her breakout role.

Julia has been in Los Angeles filming her new movie The Secret In Their Eyes.
