NBC's The Voice season 8 premiered Monday, February 23, with Christina Aguilera, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine back in their roles as coaches. Breaking the ice, the four did a spirited performance of the Lenny Kravitz hit, "Are You Gonna Go My Way." Then, the competition began. Among the standouts noted by People in Monday's "Blind Auditions" was Meghan Linsey of the now defunct country music duo Steel Magnolia.

For her audition number, Meghan delivered a soulful rendition of the Nazareth classic "Love Hurts" which got all but one of the coaches turning their chairs. Christina Aguilera was so impressed she told Meghan: "You made me believe that love hurts. I was so enraptured. You are the definition of The Voice to me." And ironically, the one mentor who did not turn his chair for her was Blake Shelton, with whom she has already gone on a country music tour with. Still, to be her coach for the upcoming parts of the season, Meghan chose to go with Pharrell Williams' team.

Another standout that Monday night was 15-year-old contemporary soul singer Sawyer Fredericks from Fultonville, New York, who received a standing ovation from all four coaches for his performance of the traditional folk song "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." He picked Pharrell to be his mentor.

Others who made it past Monday's "Blind Auditons" are Sarah Potenza who chose to be with Team Blake, Lowell Oakley now with Team Pharrell, Cody Wickline now with Team Blake, Rob Taylor now with Team Christina, Joshua Davis now with Team Blake, and 16-year-old Treeva Gibson, the daughter of deaf parents who herself has problems hearing problems, now with Team Christina.

Adam Levine who ended the night empty-handed had a tantrum according to The Wrap. When he later stormed off in a huff, Shelton reportedly said: "Adam was truly heartbroken, and that makes me so happy."
