Taylor Swift Says Meredith, Her Pet Cat, Owes Her $40 Million for Scratching Her Leg

Following persistent rumors that she's had her legs insured for $40 million, her pet cat Meredith scratched one of them. "GREAT WORK MEREDITH I WAS JUST TRYING TO LOVE YOU AND NOW YOU OWE ME 40 MILLION DOLLARS," Taylor Swift wrote on her Instagram page.

According to E! Online, Swift who will soon be embarking on a world tour for her latest album, 1989, "wants to make sure that should anything happen to her legs that would prevent her from performing, she'll be a-OK...... she needed the reassurance that her enviable features are secure." As observed by the entertainment news site, insuring body parts, particularly those they consider their money-making assets, is not uncommon in the celebrity world, citing the example of soccer star David Beckham who has a $151 million insurance on his legs, and singer Mariah Carey who has a $1 billion protection also on her legs while under contract with Gillette. Actress-singer Jennifer Lopez also reportedly had her behind insured for $27 million.

Swift, 25, is indeed scheduled to go on her fourth concert tour, dubbed "1989 World Tour," soon. It will be launched in support of and to further promote her fifth studio album 1989, which was released October 27 of last year. The tour will officially begin at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, where she will be holding shows consecutively on May 5 and May 6. From there she will return to the United States for shows in Las Vegas on May 15, Bossier City on May 20, and Batton Rouge on May 22. The she will enplane for Europe for a performance at Norwich in England on May 24.

The singer will be back stateside for a series of shows from May 30 to June 13 all over the United States, following which she will fly off to Europe for performances that have been scheduled from June 19 to June 30 in five different countries. Then she will return to North America for shows in various parts of Canada and the United States from July 6 to Halloween. Finally, at the last leg of her concert tour, she will performing six shows on six different dates in four major cities of Australia from November 28 to December 12. All in all, Swift is committed to perform in eighty different venues in different parts of the world. No wonder, she said Meredith now owes her $40 million.
