After dating for almost four years, “The Vampire Diaries” stars Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin have reportedly called it quits. The ex-couple first met on the set of the hit CW series and began dating after Wesley’s separation from actress Torrey DeVitto.

In a report by E! News, the ex-partners were last seen together as a couple on their Christmas trip to Tonkin’s hometown in Sydney, Australia. According to an insider, Wesley and Tonkin’s breakup was reportedly a friendly one and that the former lovebirds remain “good friends.”

Prior to Wesley and Tonkin’s breakup, the two posted numerous sweet photos on social media during their time together. The actress has since then removed these images on Instagram. She has also been spotted with her ring finger empty, free from the gold Cartier ring that the 34-year-old actor gave her.

In addition, an insider for Us Weekly believes Wesley and Tonkin’s breakup is “definite” as the co-stars are now living in separate homes in Los Angeles. Wrapping up filming for “The Vampire Diaries” this year, Wesley has moved on to directorial work and is helming Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.”

Before Wesley and Tonkin’s breakup, the actor already opened up about moving on from “The Vampire Diaries” and missing his fellow actors and crew members.

“Saying goodbye to the character Stefan and the things that came along with being on the show [was hard],” he said to the Huffington Post. “Honestly, the show went on for so long that you sort of start saying goodbye by Season 6.

The Canadian actor also admitted that the show coming to an end in season 8 did not come as a surprise. By the time they reached the sixth season, he had already been thinking of moving on to the next phase in life. “The Vampire Diaries” season 8 finale is set to air on March 10, Friday, at 9 p.m. on The CW.
