'Alien: Covenant' Main Character Daniels is Different from Ellen Ripley in The First Trilogy

Daniels as the main character in the "Alien: Covenant" movie is disconnected with Lt. Ellen Ripley from the first "Alien" trilogy. New image also showed the difference from the one played by Sigourney Weaver.

One of the main difference is the profession. Daniels is the terraforming expert without military background, while Ripley is the warrant officer onboard the spaceship who had military and combat skills. However, fans have drawn comparison between the Daniels' character with the unforgettable Ripley as reported by Screen Rant.

In the "Alien: Covenant" Daniels and her crews from the colony ship named Covenant landed on a remote planet to inhabit the planet. Daniels is the expert of terraforming, which enable her to change the atmosphere, temperature and topology of the area to make it inhabitable. The movie is directed by Ridley Scott, who also directed "Prometheus" in 2012 as the prelude to the movie.

When Scott planned to create a prequel to his famous "Alien" franchise, many fans expected to see the crossover with the first trilogy. Moreover, according to Wired, the "Prometheus" has the same universe as the trilogy. Therefore when the sequel "Alien: Covenant" was made, fans expected to see the re-appearance and the connection of characters from the previous trilogy.

However, according to Katherine Waterston who played Daniels, her character in "Alien: Covenant" is different from the Weaver's character but they may have connection. When she was asked regarding the connection between Daniels and Ripley she simply said, “I heard that rumor, too. That’s all I know about it.”

"Alien: Covenant" is the sixth installment of the "Alien" franchise, which was originally directed by Scott. Following the success of the first movie, 20th Century Fox decided to make sequel with different directors. James Cameron directed the second movie, while David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet directed the third and fourth installment.
