Shannen Doherty Speaks Out Against Using Pets As Part Of Meat Trade; Attributes Her Cancer Detection And Recovery To Her Dog

Actress Shannen Doherty who is a vocal animal rights activist recently lent her voice to the cause at a hearing to protect the lives of cats and dogs from human consumption. She was addressing a gathering in Washington DC at a congressional hearing.

Shannen Doherty who rose to fame on the popular  TV series "Beverly Hills 90210" in the 90s, said she attributed her pet dog with detecting her cancer, ET Online reported. During an interview in 2016, she said her pet dog would constantly sniff her on her right side where her cancer was detected. She said later after she was diagnosed it made sense to her.

Shannen Doherty speaking during a panel hearing said dogs have been trained to act on behalf of human beings in many ways. She said in battle they willingly save lives and sniff out drugs and bombs and that it was up to the panel now to stand up for the animals that did not have a voice, the Washington Post reported.

Shannen Doherty who also appeared in TV shows such as "Charmed" said dogs were a part of human families and needed protection. She was speaking in reference to the newly introduced act for the prohibition of the trade of dog and cat meat.

Shannen Doherty's brother is believed to be the influence who introduced his sister to legislators in Washington who are working on bringing the bill into implementation. The actress was part of a panel that comprised influential government officials anxious to ban dog and cat flesh for the pet-flesh market.

Shannen Doherty who is recovering from breast cancer spend her time in Los Angeles working as an advocate and lending her help to Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, the Daily Mail reported. The actress who documented her journey of cancer treatment recently finished her last session of chemotherapy. Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She attributes her recovery to her pet dog.
