'Lucifer' Season 2 News & Update: Tom Ellis, Lauren German Series Set For Possible Christmas Special Due To Shortened Season

It is still a long wait for the second half of "Lucifer" Season 2 yet there is already some bad news for fans of the Fox series. It has been revealed that there are only 5 episodes left, which means that the show will be drastically shortened. So what exactly happened to the expected 4 other episodes? Showrunner Joe Henderson has just offered an explanation for fans who are hoping to see more of Tom Ellis and Lauren German. Is it possible that the series will be getting a Christmas special during the holiday season?

Deadline has reported that "Lucifer" Season 2 will be shortened to only 18 episodes when the show returns to Fox in May. It is believed that the missing 4 episodes from the original 22-episode lineup will be aired in the third season. However, Joe Henderson may have teased on the possibility that one or two of these extra episodes will be released much earlier. Could this mean a Christmas special featuring Tom Ellis and Lauren German?

The "Lucifer" Season 2 showrunner recently took to Twitter to explain why "Lucifer" Season 2 has been shortened. Joe Henderson basically explained that the episodes were made to allow them to "play around a bit" and even teased that the third season will have more than 22 episodes. In addition to that, the last tweet suggested that some of the episodes will not be a part of Season 3. This immediately led to speculations that Tom Ellis and Lauren German could return in a "Lucifer" Christmas special.

It is still uncertain whether the series will have a Christmas special so it is best to take the information with a grain of salt. Tom Ellis and Lauren German will return in "Lucifer" Season 2 Episode 14 will air on Fox on May 1.
