"Sherlock" Season 5 has an ongoing online petition to convince the series creators to renew the show. Fans took to Twitter and used hangtag #Bring221Back as part of their efforts to urge the team behind the popular crime TV drama to create another season. However, actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and BBC remain silent about the issue.

Dedicated fans of the TV series are eager to bring Sherlock and Watson back on their screen as pointed out by Celebeat. For this reason, the hashtag #Bring221Back was spread all over Twitter in a short period of time. Viewers' efforts to get a "Sherlock" Season 5 is impressive but the decision is still in the hands of the network and producers of the show.

But it appears that the news has not reached Cumberbatch and Freeman yet as the actors are still mum about the "Sherlock" Season 5 petition. Also, the lead stars have not released an official statement since the hashtag was shared on a massive scale. Even BBC nor the producers of the series have given any comment about the fans' efforts.

If previous reports are to be considered, it seems that "Sherlock" Season 5 will not come to fruition. Earlier this year, The Telegraph detailed a report where lead actor Freeman advised viewers to watch another show instead of asking when the new season of "Sherlock" will come out. Did he just hint that the fourth season is the last installment of the franchise?

Cumberbatch also had something to say. He explained that the fourth season felt like the end though he didn't specifically rule out the possibility of "Sherlock" Season 5. Similar to his on-screen buddy Freeman, the "Doctor Strange" actor can't say for sure if there will be a new season or none.

"Sherlock" Season 5 may still receive a green light but it might take more time before the actors involved in the show can free their schedules for filming. After all, BBC has established a record of letting viewers wait for long years before airing a new season of the hit TV series.
