Big names in the music industry will go head-to-head at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards following the revelation of the nomination list. On Monday, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and singer Julia Michaels have announced the five categories on "Good Morning America," while the rest of the nominees were said to have been revealed on Twitter. As expected, this includes the hotly topic of the face-off between Selena Gomez's boyfriend, The Weeknd, and her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, as well as the rumored lovers Drake and Rihanna, whose romance has been whispered about.

According to Daily Mail, Drake and Rihanna are allegedly nominated as a pair but will also be set for a face off against each other at this year's Billboard Music Awards. It was found that the five main categories are Top Female and Male Artists, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Artist. As it turns out, with the pair dominating a number of categories, the music awards will seemingly be the celebration of Drake and Rihanna. However, apart from the Barbadian singer, other female artists vying for the Top Female Artist include Adele, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Sia.

Furthermore, as per 9News, Top Male Artist nominees include Justin Bieber, Drake, Future, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd, who also turned out to earn quite a few nominations, including Top Billboard 200 Album, Billboard Chart Achievement, and Top R&B Artist. On the other hand, Bieber will be up for Top Radio Songs, Top Touring Artist and Top Social Artist, a category where his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez has also been nominated. Speaking of face-offs, it can be recalled that Bieber has nearly had a run-in with Gomez and The Weeknd earlier this year, and others are now saying that it might happen again at this year's awards ceremony.

Ultimately, the panel of judges wanted to highly emphasize that Billboard Music Awards nominees will be judged based on several factors such as the artist's fan interactions with music, album and digital songs sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring as well as social engagement. The 2017 Billboard Music Awards will be aired on Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, live on ABC from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
