On her appearance on "Good Morning America" today, former "American Idol" contestant Kellie Pickler decided to  buzz her blonde locks in support of her longtime BFF Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June.

"Cancer does not discriminate," Pickler said.

"If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it," Miller, who underwent a double mastectomy and begins chemotherapy this week, said.

Pickler hinted towards her big change on Twitter yesterday, writing "Be sure to watch 'Good Morning America' tomorrow morning (Sept 5th). You won't want to miss this!!! ;)"

In recent months, quite a few celebrities, ahem, Miley Cyrus, has done away with their lengthy locks for publicity purposes, we're glad Pickler's newly shorn look is for an important cause.

On her days on "American Idol," Pickler parlayed herself as the ditsy blonde, which got everyone wondering, is she really that, well, stupid?

"I think she's laying on that 'I ain't never been nowhere and don't know nothing but I'm as shiny as a shrimp in grits to be here and swim in your see-ment pond' thing a little thick. And I ain't buying it." writer Leslie Gray Streeter wrote on palmbeachpost.com.

"I think a lot of people are debating whether Kellie is authentic or putting on an act," Jim Fraenkel, executive producer of MTV News said.

"There are people who are quite taken by her, and others who are more suspicious. I wouldn't necessarily say that she's so savvy she's tapped into the idea that America loves a stupid girl, so much as that she may think of herself as Jessica Simpson was."

Even outspoken singer Pink weighed in on the matter. "None of these girls are stupid," the rocker told Entertainment Weekly during an interview. "They've dumbed themselves down to be cute. I just feel like one image is being force-fed down people's throats. There's a lot of smart women. There's a lot of smart girls. Who's representing them?"
