The fashion gene doesn't fall far from the tree, Michelle Obama's mini-me's, Malia and Sasha, looked age appropriate yet chic at Thursday night's Democratic national convention, held in Charlotte, N.C.

Malia, 14, was clad in a vivid cobalt blue sleeveless dress from H&M, which she paired with mustard yellow flats, and bubbly younger sister Sasha, 11, wore a black-and-grey Anthropologie printed dress and styled it with a bright yellow belt - her adorable gold flats completed the look.

Mom-and-chief looked as radiant as always -- draped in a floral printed plum dress by designer Laura Smalls.

A stickler for attendance, President Barack Obama announced to his daughters "You still have to go to school tomorrow," and we could have sworn Sasha, pegged him with a disapproving glare - it's always the youngest ones.

The fashionable duo watched their mom's passionate speech on Tuesday night at the White House with their father. Pictures of the tender moment spread like wildfire after its release.

"We're really going to be seeing them as young women," said Sandra Sobieraj, a correspondent for People magazine who has a history of covering first families. "It will be stunning, because we don't see them regularly. There hasn't been a steady stream of images to relate to."

President Obama loves to talk about his girls but at times have taken it a bit far, he embarrassed eldest daughter Malia, when he announced to the world that she received a 73 on a science test, a flub for which he later apologized.

"They just love talking about their girls," said Sobieraj. "They get genuine joy from them, and so they talk about it. To a degree that makes the staff uncomfortable, because the line is shifting."
