Dez Duron 'You Smile:' Watch Video Of Justin Bieber Cover; Disliked On Youtube?

By Staff Reporter | Nov 27, 2012 06:57 AM EST

Dez Duron's cover of Justin Bieber's "You Smile" may have been the shockingly beautiful would-be crooner's best performance on "The Voice" to date. Duron's New Orleans brand of cool continues to feel effortless, and he hits each and every single one of his notes. Even when his Justin Bieber cover careens into a falsetto:

Admittedly, we're less familiar with the Justin Bieber original, but there's no way it sounds the way this does. Justin Bieber is a superstar; Dez Duron's performance made the song feel like a brassy classic. While it may not be as radio-ready as any of the earworms Bieber has turned out, it feels like it's been around for much longer.

It's a bold move by Dez Duron and Team XTina, but could it send Dez packing? Presumably, the move was a calculated attempt to discern the tastes of Dez Duron's fanbase, equating his flock of teens and tweens with Justin Bieber's. But Bieber's version sounds very much like a boy's version-- here, Dez sounds like a man. And though it's sonically just about perfect, Dez may have defiled what some consider to be sacred ground, whether or not you think his cover was worthy.

Take a look at the video's dislikes on Youtube. At time of writing, it has a whopping 465-- almost a 1:2 ratio of dislikes to likes. To put that number into perspective, Dez's Nina Simone cover from last week has a 1:10 ratio of dislikes to likes.

Could he have alienated the people who were voting for him? We'll see on the results show!
