Johnny Depp has indicated that his days as a leading man may be over in an interview with the BBC on Monday.

The 50-year old movie star is in the United Kingdom to promote his latest flick, The Lone Ranger. He explained to the reporter that there were "quieter" things he would prefer doing rather than acting and that retirement would not be too far in the future.

"I wouldn't say that I'm dropping out any second," Depp said, "but I would say it's probably not too far away."

Depp continued by saying that acting could have its potential drawbacks.

"At a certain point, you start thinking, and when you add up the amount of dialogue that you say per year, for example, and you realize that you've said written words more than you've actually had a chance to say your own words, you start thinking of that as a kind of insane option for a human being," he said.

In June, Depp also alluded to a possible retirement in a Rolling Stone cover article. However, he was still not fully committed to marking the end of his career which has seen him play such roles as Edward Scissorhands. He said he wanted to keep his creative spark alive while there were still opportunities.

"And then, at a certain point, just take it down to the bare minimum and concentrate on, I guess, living life. Really living life. And going somewhere where you don't have to be on the run, or sneak in through the kitchen or the underground labyrinth of the hotel. At a certain point, when you get old enough or get a few brain cells back, you realize that, on some level, you lived a life of a fugitive," he said.
