Britain's Oldest King Would Be Prince Charles
When Prince Charles was just 3 years old, he became the first in line to the British throne. On Thursday, Sept. 20, he earned a rather uncertain distinction: Prince Charles would be the oldest British King, PEOPLE reported.
According to The Telegraph, Prince Charles just surpassed the previous record holder of this distinction, William IV. William IV became king in 1830 at the age of 64 years old. The oldest heir to the throne so far was Sophia of Hanover who died in 1714 at age 83.
Presently, the prince is the longest heir apparent and has been working since his mother; Queen Elizabeth II became the monarch in 1952.
However, he could still wait for a while. Queen Elizabeth, 87, has a good health and life longevity runs in the family-the Queen Mother died when she was 101 years old already.
Though there are signs that the queen is yielding some power to her firstborn son. Charles has attended the state opening of the Parliament with his mother for the first time since 17 years ago. In November, he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Sri Lanka on behalf of the queen.
Last year during his birthday party, the Prince of Wales addressed whether or not he was anxious to be crowned king.
"Impatient? Me? What a thing to suggest! Yes, of course I am.I'll run out of time soon. I shall have snuffed it if I'm not careful," he joked.
