Carrie Star Chloe Moretz Tries Goth Style

Carrie star Chloe Moretz transformed her look to a goth style for the "dark arts" issue of Dazed & Confused magazine, looking very different from her usual bubbly, blonde self, Us Weekly reported.

On the cover of the magazine, the teen star put on a short, Joan Jett-esque black wig that balances her shockingly edgy new look with thick eyeliner and a tough gaze. She also wore a tweed-and-silk Chanel jacket and a Meadham Kirchhoff ruffled shirt.

However, perhaps this is just part of growing up as she revealed in a previous interview with Glamour that she has been "wearing a lot of all black" lately.

"I really love Winona Ryder -- her look in the time right after Mermaids and Heathers, that first year of Johnny Depp and her," she told the magazine. "They were the best couple ever -- they're like Romeo and Juliet!"

In a recent roundtable for the movie Carrie, Moretz told the reporters that she had to reach deep in order to play her dark character of the bullied telekinetic teen. Her rather religious mother is played by Julianne Moore. The original 1976 version of the filmed starred Sissy Spacek as the teen and Piper Laurie as the mother.

"Everyone has something inside them that, if they want to bring it up every day, they could cry about it, they could be sad and live their life in just complete terror of your own feelings," she explained. "And that was really what I had to bring up was all my vulnerabilities. All my vulnerabilities that I, even at fifteen, had learned to deal with and to put away and go, ok this is how you're human and this is how you live everyday life without crying and stuff."

The 16-year-old star also mentioned that the iconic prom scene where Carrie has a bucket full of pig's blood dumped on her after being named the prom queen was mainly terrifying to film.

"It kind of felt like when you were about to drop off of one of those droppy rides, which is always scary because you know something is going to happen," she said. "And I'm like, this is so crazy right now. And [I grabbed] Ansel Elgort's hand (the actor plays jock Tommy Ross)... that wasn't supposed to happen. We grabbed each other's hands because we were both so scared."
