Widow Sleeps With Husband's Dead Body For a Year [PHOTO]
A widow in Belgium slept with the corpse of her dead husband for more than a year, The Huffington Post reported Wednesday.
79-year-old "Marcel H" died in November 2012 of an asthma. However, his grieving wife could not bring herself to notify the authorities. Instead, she would sleep with his decomposing body. Authorities made the discovery of his mummified remains on Nov. 19. The landlord said that the couple had not paid rent which was the reason for the police attention. Prior, nothing was suspected since neighbors had not complained of any foul orders.

"A body can mummify in a dry, warm environment," Philippe Boxho, pathologist at the Forensic Center of Liege told Carters News Agency. "It takes at least a week to reach such a state. In this case the body had rotten [sic] in the bed [and] his internal organs had melted and liquefied. ... Even though the smell of human decay is quite specific, many people equate that smell to the smell of garbage and once the body has become rotten the smell does decrease significantly."
The name of the widow was not released. Nor was it revealed if any charges will be filed against her.
