Nigella Lawson's former assistants allege that she abused drugs with the knowledge of her then-husband Charles Saatchi, which was the reason why she let them used his credit card in exchange for their silence.

The allegations were brought up in court on Tuesday, Nov. 26, Us Weekly reported. The two assistants, Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, have been prosecuted for fraud. The former assistants of Lawson were accused of getting as more than 300,000 pounds ($484,600) during the period when they worked for Lawson when she and Saatchi were still living together.

As reported by Telegraph, Anthony Metzer QC who is the lawyer of Elisabetta said, "The bad character application relates to Miss Lawson's alleged use of both class A and class B drugs and also her unauthorised use of prescribed drugs as a matter which is highly relevant to the defence case. In a nutshell we submit that she had a guilty secret from her husband, her then husband. She did not want him to know of her use of cocaine and that is highly relevant to the defence case."

Jane Carpenter, the prosecutor, said, "This is a totally scurrilous account which has been raised by the defense, and the timing is no coincidence at all."

Contacted by Reuters, Lawson's publicist Mark Hutchinson said: "As proceedings are live we can't comment at the moment."

According to NY Daily News, these accusations could destroy Lawson and her career. A source also told the publications that ABC executives are thinking over the decision on whether to invite Lawson back for a third season as a judge on The Taste.
