Charlie Sheen has resumed his child support payments to ex-wife Brooke Mueller.

In an effort to remain in the lives of his two sons, Sheen has chosen to voluntarily reinstate the $55,000 child support payments due to Mueller and allow her to continue living in one of his Los Angeles mansions with the boys.

“Charlie is feeling very generous towards Brooke recently — this is attributed to the fact that Brooke is allowing him to spend time with the boys,” a source told Radar Online. “So he decided to voluntarily begin paying Brooke the $55k in monthly child support."

After Mueller lost custody of the five-year-old twins, Bob and Max, her payments were reduced to $20,000, but now that she has her boys back, it was only a matter of time before she and Sheen returned to court to raise the payments.

"[Sheen] decided to make it easy on Brooke, and not have long drawn-out talks between their respective lawyers," the source explained.

In Nov. 2013, Sheen threatened to sell the Mulholland Estates mansion where Mueller had been living, but now that they are on good terms, he "wants her to remain in gated community where he also lives," said the source.

Mueller first lost custody of her boys in May of 2013 after a reported overdose. At the time, Mueller was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold and for months after the incident, it was said that her and Sheen's sons were in jeopardy of being placed into foster care.

Eventually, the boys were placed back into Mueller's home, with her brother, Scott, acting as a temporary guardian.

In January, it was reported that Mueller was on track to officially regain custody of the twins.
