Patrick Dempsey's Mother Amanda Dies Of Cancer
Patrick Dempsey's mother, Amanda Dempsey, has lost her battle with cancer.
On Monday, the Grey's Anatomy star's mom passed away after a long and strenuous battle with ovarian cancer.
"[Patrick]'s 79-year-old mother, Amanda Dempsey, died Monday surrounded by family," E! News reported on Wednesday morning.
In honor of his mother, Dempsey and his sisters, Alicia and Mary, founded The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Me. In 2008, Amanda received treatment at the facility.
"The entire Central Maine Medical family mourns the passing of Amanda Dempsey," Peter Chalke, president and CEO of Central Maine Healthcare said on Tuesday. "Amanda Dempsey was both a great lady and a determined fighter who displayed tremendous courage, class and grace during her long battle with cancer."
For the last five years, Amanda Dempsey led the survivor walk during Dempsey Challenge weekend alongside Patrick, Alicia, Mary, and her grandchildren. Thus far, the event has raised over $5 million to support the Dempsey Center, which provides "free cancer support, education and medicine services" to those impacted by cancer.
Amanda is survived by husband Howard Lowell and her three children, Patrick Alicia, and Mary.
