Zac Efron was attacked on Skid Row over the weekend after what is suspected of being a drug relapse.

After allegedly running out of gas in Los Angeles' Skid Row district, an area notorious for its drug trade, Efron suffered a blow to the face at the hands of a "sketchy transient."

"Cops were on patrol under the Harbor Freeway when they saw Zac and a man he identified as his bodyguard," TMZ reported on March 27. "Cops saw Zac and the other guy in a full-blown melee with at least 3 other people."

After breaking up the fight, cops questioned Efron (who was in rehab twice last year for an alleged addiction to cocaine), who explained that he and his bodyguard had run out of gas and were waiting in their car for a tow truck. As they waited, they threw a bottle out of the window, which shattered on the ground near a group of homeless people.

Thinking the bottle was aimed at them, the men reportedly proceeded to approach Efron's vehicle and attack his bodyguard. When Efron got out of the vehicle to assist the bodyguard, one of the men punched him in the face.

"It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life," Efron told police.

One source at the scene told TMZ that Zac was "obviously intoxicated."

After questioning, police determined the incident to be "mutual combat," since no one could be singled out as the aggressor, and no one was arrested.
