Kesha Eating Disorder: Singer Opens Up About Being "Hateful"

Kesha opened up about her painful struggles through an eating disorder in a new essay.

Four months after leaving rehab, where she received treatment for the disorder, Kesha is speaking out about her issues with her body and her journey to a better place.

"The music industry has set unrealistic expectations for what a body is supposed to look like, and I started becoming overly critical of my own body because of that," Kesha explained in an essay to Elle UK, via Us Weekly. "I felt like people were always lurking, trying to take pictures of me with the intention of putting them up online or printing them in magazines and making me look terrible."

In Jan. 2014, Kesha released a statement to press, announcing that she was entering a 30-day treatment facility to "learn to love myself again." Following her announcement, reports surfaced that Kesha's producer, Dr. Luke, was responsible for Kesha's issues with her weight. In one report, it was stated that Kesha was "profoundly affected" by Dr. Luke's constant "fat comments" and claims that she looked "like a f***ing refrigerator." Although Dr. Luke denied the allegations, rumors continued regarding his negative influence.

"I felt like a liar, telling people to love themselves as they are, while I was being hateful to myself and really hurting my body," Kesha continued in her essay.

When Kesha left rehab in March 2014, one month later than she planned, she felt confident, for the first time, that she would be comfortable with the photos that would surely be published after she touched down in Los Angeles.
