Latest Diet Crazes: Five Tips For The Lazy Girl to Lose Weight This Autumn

By Jamie Dinar | Aug 29, 2014 04:43 PM EDT

The summer months bring an innate need to stay in shape. With the heat comes skimpier clothing, bikini bodies and sitting out to perspire last night's alcoholic toxins.

Now that the temperature is dropping, that natural need to stay thin may de-escalate, as well. Bathing suits are turning into sweat pants and Vitamin D-induced activities are turning into hours in bed with your best friend, Netflix.

No worries. Celebeat found five great diet tips for the inner lazy-girl in you.

Here's to a healthy autumn!

Never Say Just "No" To Your Favorite Junk Foods

Fitness Magazine said completely cutting out your favorite carbs or fats is more likely to lead to binge eating. Instead, learn how to indulge in your favorite pastries without overdoing it. Surprisingly, this may help you say no next time.

"Cheating should be planned and deliberate," Anne Kulze, MD, told Fitness Mag. "Avoiding favorite foods can lead to bingeing, followed by regret and abandonment of all your efforts."

Not All Alcohol Was Created Equally

Next time you're at the bar, think twice before ordering a refill. It may not register, but alcohol has a ton of calories.

According to WedMD, a single chocolate martini has more calories than a McDonald's grilled chicken sandwich. The site also stated that one gram of alcohol has seven calories!

"It's the mixers, syrups and sodas that really get people into calorie trouble, because most drinks start with 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits that only have around 96 calories, but mixologists can easily turn that into a drink with hundreds of calories," Carolyn O'Neil, MS, RD said in the WebMD article.

Don't Eat in Front of the Screen

Mindful eating is smart eating, and how mindful are you while engulfed in the latest Real Housewives' drama?

"You tend to eat 14 percent more if the TV is on," Susan Alberts, Psy.D., told Women's Health Mag.

Keep your eyes on your plate and actually think about what you're eating. It will help you fill up quicker!

Eat Yogurt

According to new research in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, yogurt can help you slim down. Rania Batayneh, M.P.H. told Women's Health Magazine it is packed with probiotics, a "beneficial bacteria" that promotes a "healthy gut environment" and "obstructs the growth of 'bad bacteria.'"

"Various studies show they help lower chronic inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity in both diabetic and healthy individuals and lower cortisol levels, which are kep players in belly fat," she said.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Sure, it may be delicious, but that should give you less reason to chomp down food as quickly as possible.

WebMD said it takes 20 minutes for the stomach to tell your brain that you are full, so if you eat too quickly, you may get really full... really, really fast. Instead, eat small bites. This way you can enjoy your food, and you may skip that uncomfortable feeling of being "too stuffed to move."
