'RHONJ' Star Teresa Giudice Enjoys Pre-Prison Party

On Thursday, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star and her husband, Joe Giudice, appeared in court, where they both received their sentences for charges of fraud. Following their hearing, a statement made by the judge was released to press.

"For a moment I thought about probation … but I think a period of confinement is absolutely necessary in this case," the judge reportedly told Teresa, according to an Oct. 2 report by PEOPLE Magazine. "I don't honestly believe that you understand or respect the law. I need to send a message. In the eyes of the law it doesn't matter who you are. There are consequences to pay."

Teresa Giudice's Sentencing Causes 'RHONJ' Filming Delay

After pleading guilty to fraud crimes in March 2014, Teresa was facing 27 months behind bars. Although the prosecution on her case recommended the court sentence her to 21 months, the judge felt 15 months was more appropriate. Joe, who was facing 47 months, received a 41-month sentence.

Luckily for the couple, who is parents to Audriana, 5, Milania, 8, Gabriella, 9, and Gia, 13, the judge won't require them to do serve their sentences at the same time. Instead, Teresa will turn herself in first, on Jan. 5. Once she's finished her term, Joe will begin his.

In addition to her prison sentence, Teresa also received two years probation.

On Oct. 5, Teresa, along with husband Joe, will join their Real Housewives of New Jersey co-stars for the taping of the season six reunion special.
