'Drumline: A New Beat' Follows In The Footsteps Of 'Sharknado'

During the movie's VH1 debut, Twitter users made comparisons to Sharknado, which didn't seem to be a good sign. However, while fans may not have enjoyed Drumline: A New Beat, they surely made it a hit for the network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Drumline: A New Beat "attracted 2.4 million viewers and a 1.4 in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo on Monday in its 9 p.m. premiere. With the 11:30 p.m. encore factored in, the TV movie's viewership jumps nearly 1 million, to 3.3 million."

Nick Cannon Removes Wedding Ring, Moves On From Mariah Carey

Last year, VH1's CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story became the highest-rated TV movie of the year among adults 18-49, with a 2.9 rating. The film captured 4.5 million viewers during its debut in Oct. 2013.

Drumline: A New Beat starred Alexandra Shipp, Jeff Pierre, Jordan Calloway, Jasmine Burke, Scott Shilstone, LeToya Luckett and DeRay Davis. The cast was also joined by Nick Cannon, who appeared in a cameo role, and Leonard Roberts.

As the film aired, Twitter users weighed in, using the hash tag, "#Drumline2," which quickly became a trending topic.

"Dear @VH1 and makers of #Drumline2: please don't mistake our watching this as us wanting a #Drumline3. We were bored and wanted family time," one viewer wrote, according to an Oct. 29 report by the Latin Post. Another said, "Bet they filmed #drumline2 with the iPhone 6 bruh."
