Seventh Son rakes in $21.7 million at the foreign box office

Legendary Pictures' Seventh Son is screening in 24 overseas territories months ahead of its US theater run and so far it has already grossed $21.7 million at these foreign box office says Variety. Reportedly, the film was No. 1 in several countries, including Russia, Romania, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The Seventh Son is a film adaptation of The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch, the first book in Joseph Delaney's fantasy epic series, "The Wardstone Chronicles," which follows the exploits of Thomas 'Tom' Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son, as an apprentice "Spook," a master fighter of supernatural evil. Directed by Sergei Bodrov from a screenplay written by Matt Greenberg, Charles Leavitt and Steven Knight, the movie's cast is headed by Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Olivia Williams, and Kit Harington. The Seventh Son is scheduled for showing in the US beginning February 6.

According to the film's synopsis, Master John Gregory (Bridges), the local spook who is a seventh son of a seventh son, is in the process of training his successor in the trade, who must also be a seventh son of a seventh son. His first apprentice, Billy Bradley (Harrington), however died early on in his fight against malevolent supernatural forces. Centuries ago, Gregory defeated Mother Malkin (Moore), an evil witch who practices blood magic. Now, she has escaped imprisonment and thirsts for vengeance. She summons her followers and prepares to unleash her wrath on humanity. Gregory takes Tom Ward (Barnes), a young farm boy who is also a seventh son of a seventh son as his new apprentice and tries to teach him all he can within the span of one week before the next full moon rise when Mother Malkin will finally become unbeatable. Alice Deane (Vikander), the great-granddaughter of Mother Malkin, eventually helps Tom win in the end.
