Sound garden frontman Chris Cornell has announced that he has started recording for his new studio solo album. This will be Cornell's last studio LP since 2009's Scream.

"Day 1 of recording a new solo album and as it happens, learning that I share a name with an alleged jihadist," Chris posted on twitter, referring to 20-year-old Ohio man Christopher Lee Cornell who was arrested on Wednesday (January 14) for allegedly plotting to attack the US Capitol building.

He also posted on instagram that he was "back in the studio" along with the picture you can see above.

Cornell was ranked 4th in the list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" by Hit Parader, 9th in the list of 'Best Lead Singers Of All Time' by Rolling Stone, 12th in "MTV's 22 Greatest Voices in Music" and was voted "Rock's Greatest Singer" by readers of Guitar World. He performed the theme song to the James Bond film Casino Royale (2006), "You Know My Name."

Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and yielded the Grammy Award-winning singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman". In 1997, the band broke up due to internal strife over its creative direction. After several years working on projects and other bands, Soundgarden reunited in 2010 and their sixth studio album, King Animal, was released two years later.

As of 2012, Soundgarden had sold more than 10.5 million records in the United States, and an estimated 22.5 million worldwide.
