Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies' The Sponge Bob Movie: Sponge Out of Water will be showing in theaters beginning February 6. Produced and directed by Paul Tibbit from a script he co-wrote with Stephen Hillenburg, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, the 3D sequel to the 2004box office hit animated film The Sponge Bob Square Pants Movie will be featuring both live-action scenes and CGI animation. In this movie, the characters notably becomes CGI animated when they get on land, unlike in the Nickelodeon TV episodes and in the first film where they remain in their 2D look.

The official teaser trailer from the studios shows SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends leaving their cartoon dimension on the ocean floor for the surface world to go on a quest in order to retrieve a stolen magic formula. Unless they get back their Krabby Patty Secret Recipe, their entire city will remain doomed. As things turned out, the Krusty Krub formula was stolen by the nefarious pirate Burger-Beard who uses it to complete the final page of a magical book that makes any evil plan he writes in it to come true. But in order to tangle with the pirate and his magical crew, SpongeBob and the gang must first transform themselves into superheroes. Thus, SpongeBob becomes The Invincibubble, Patrick Star becomes Mr. Superawesomeness, Squidward Tentacles turns into Sour Note, Mr. Krabs into Sir Pinch-a-Lot, Sandy Cheeks into The Rodent, and Plankton into Plank-Ton.

For The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, the regular main cast members will be reprising their roles from the Nickelodeon TV series and the previous 2004 film. Thus, Tom Kenny stars as SpongeBob, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star, Rodger Bumpus as Squidward Tentacles, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Mr. Lawrence as Plankton, and Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy Cheeks. Playing the role of main villain Burger-Beard the Pirate is Antonio Banderas. Ex-Guns N' Roses lead guitarist Slash will also be making a cameo as himself.
