Mehcad Brooks Named as ‘Jimmy Olsen’ For the Upcoming ‘Supergirl’ TV Series on CBS
Mehcad Brooks, best known for his roles as 'Eggs' in the hit series True Blood and as 'TK King' in Necessary Roughness will next be playing the role of 'Jimmy Olsen' in the upcoming Supergirl TV series that will soon air on CBS. As Olsen, Mehcad will be portraying the love interest of Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers aka Supergirl (to be played by Glee star Melissa Benoist).
According to show's storyline, Kara, after arriving on Earth as a toddler was taken in by a foster family, the Danvers, who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. At age 24, Kara begins embracing her extraordinary abilities, using them to help the people of her adopted city. Soon they take notice, even giving her a new moniker: Supergirl. As for Olsen, he's a photographer at CatCo.,
where Kara in her secret identity also works as CEO Cat Grant's personal assistant. Kara has a crush on Olsen.
Although the roles of Supergirl and Jimmy Olsen have already been taken, CBS still needs to find actors to portray the other main characters, including Kara's science-minded older sister Alexandra "Alex" Danvers who is working for a secret government organization; her boss Cat Grant, the founder of media conglomerate CatCo who's been described as "J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour"; her next door neighbor Winslow 'Wynn' Scott, a programmer for CatCo; and Hank Henshaw, a CIA agent who is the head of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), who goes on high alert when Supergirl reveals herself, worried that she could pose a threat to humankind.
The executive producers for Supergirl include Greg Berlanti (Arrow and The Flash), Ali Adler (The New Normal), who are both also writing the script, and Berlanti Productions's Sarah Schechter.
