The 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show was announced as the most watched one in history to date. The show, headlined by Katy Perry, along with Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot was viewed by 118.5 million people, which tops the previous record holder (Bruno Mars) by 3.2 million viewers, according to Billboard.

Mars previously held the record for his halftime show last year, which had an audience of 115.3 million people.

Perry has been included in the Forbes list of "Top-Earning Women In Music" for 2011, 2012, and 2013. Throughout her career, she has sold 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time.

The official sponsor of the Super Bowl halftime show, Pepsi, surely took notice of Perry's monumental social media presence when making their final decision. Perry is the most followed person on twitter with over 60 million followers, in addition to her over 76 million fans on Facebook. So it was a safe bet for Pepsi that viewership would be strong just through her promoting it to her own following. The halftime show also started with a Pepsi logo, so they were very much advertised during the night.

Before Sunday night (Feb 1), Bruno Mars was the most watched halftime show ever with 115.3 million viewers, beating out Beyonce's 2013 halftime show, which attracted 110.5 million viewers. So with Perry setting a new mark this year, it is clear to see that the hugely popular NFL is still on the rise in the U.S.

Super Bowl XLIX took place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona with the New England Patriots beating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in a thriller.
