‘Story of Your Life’: Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams to Star in Movie Adaptation of Award-Winning Science Fiction Short Story

Jeremy Renner, 44, and Amy Adams, 40, are confirmed to star in Story of Your Life, Paramount's sci-fi drama being directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script penned by Eric Heisserer that is adapted from a short story of the same name by Nebula and Hugo Award-winning author Ted Chiang.

The Story of Your Life, which Paramount acquired reportedly for $20 million, takes off when alien crafts land around the world. The military recruits an expert linguist, to be played by Adams, to determine whether they come in peace, or they are a threat. However, as she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that eventually prove to be the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit. Renner will be playing the role of a physics professor paired by the government with the linguistic expert to help communicate with the aliens.

The Story of Your Life is being produced by Glen Basner's FilmNation, David Linde's Lava Bear Films and 21 Laps'Shawn Levy and Dan Levine. According to Empire Online, director Villeneuve is set to kick off shooting in June. The film is expected to be ready for release in 2016.

Renner will also be seen on the big-screen on May 1 when Avengers: Age of Ultron debuts in theaters. He will be reprising his role as Hawkeye for the third time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will also be back as William Brandt in Mission: Impossible 5 which will be released on July 31. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Renner will shoot Captain America: Civil War this spring, then segue to Story of Your Life in mid-June.

Adams, on the other hand, will reprise her role as Lois Lane for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the sequel to Man of Steel which is scheduled for theatrical screening beginning March 25, 2016. She is also set to star in Twentieth Century Fox's movie adaptation of Adena Halpern's novel "The Ten Best Days of My Life" which she will also be producing. She is also confirmed to star in a Janis Joplin biopic tentatively titled Get It While You Can.
