‘Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23's’ Krysten Ritter Casts as ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones’ in Netflix's Upcoming Live-Action Superhero TV Series
Krysten Ritter, 33, best known for her roles as Jane Margolis in Breaking Bad and as Chloe in Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 is cast as Jessica Jones in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones, an upcoming web TV series developed for Netflix by Melissa Rosenberg based on the Marvel Comics character, a former superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who opens her own detective agency she called Alias Private Investigations.
The A.K.A. Jessica Jones series will consist of 13 hour-long episodes which will be released simultaneously. In January, Netflix COO Ted Sarandos [via Zap2it] said the series was "eligible to go into multiple seasons for sure" and they would look at "how well [they] are addressing both the Marvel fanbase but also the broader fanbase" in terms of determining if additional seasons would be appropriate."
Joining Ritter in the cast are David Tennant as the purple man Kilgrave, Mike Colter as superhero-for-hire Luke Cage, Rachel Taylor as radio host and Jessica's best friend Patsy Walker, Carrie-Ann Moss as Jessica's potential ally Harper, Eka Darville as Jessica's neighbor Malcolm, Erin Moriarty as Jessica's client Hope, and Will Traval as an NYPD officer.
A.K.A. Jessica Jones is the second of the ordered Netflix series, after Marvel's Daredevil which airs April 10, and will be followed by Marvel's Iron Fist, and Marvel's Luke Cage, before leading into the miniseries, Marvel's The Defenders.
Show creator Rosenberg in describing the character said: "I love this character. That is an incredibly damaged, dark, complex female character that kicks ass." Before she gave up her career as a superhero in favor of being a private eye, Jessica used to be called as Jewel, then as the Knightress, then as Power Woman. Exposure to experimental chemicals gave her super strength, limited invulnerability, and flight.
The series went into production beginning February 2015 in New York City.
