John Stamos, 51 best remembered for his role as the young Jesse in the ABC hit sitcom Full House which aired 1987-95 and for his occasional guesting as guitarist/ percussionist in rock band Beach Boys' live performances, is cast in the title role in Fox's upcoming comedy pilot Grandpa.

Stamos plays Jimmy, the central character in the new sitcom written by Danny Chun and produced by Dan Fogelman, who is described as "a charismatic longtime bachelor whose life is upended when he discovers he's a father - and a grandfather."

Paget Brewster, 46, whose best-known roles are as Kathy on NBC's Friends and as Supervisory Special Agent Emily Prentiss on CBS' Criminal Minds, is cast to play the part of Sara, Jimmy's old girlfriend, described as a former rocker chick who became pregnant with his child 26 years ago, but has raised their child, Gerald, single-handedly. As further described in the pilot's outline, Sara "never made Jimmy aware of his son's existence - but now, Gerald wants a strong father figure to teach him how to navigate the rocky shoals of romance, so Sara is forced to disrupt Jimmy's long bachelorhood at long last. She's seemingly contemptuous of his bachelor persona - but underneath, their old attraction may still be simmering on the back."

Josh Peck, 28, the voice of the opossum Eddie in the Ice Age franchise films and the Josh in Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh shows, is cast in the role of the son Jimmy never knew he had, Gerald, described as "a sweet unemployed techie who is himself the proud and surprisingly capable father of a two-year-old daughter, the product of a one-night stand with the sexy Vanessa." The 19-year-old R&B, hip-hop and dance singer-songwriter Christina Milian will be playing the character of Vanessa.

John Stamos is reportedly also executive producing the pilot sitcom show through his St. Amos production company.
