In the latest "The Big Bag Theory" Season 10 news, CBS has ordered the prequel entitled "Young Sheldon." The prequel, a single camera, and half-hour comedy, is scheduled to air next season.

"Young Sheldon" will follow the life of Sheldon Cooper (played by actor Jim Parsons in the "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10). Audiences will be given a glimpse of the life of the nine-year-old version of the fan favorite character, living with his family and going to high school in East Texas. Iain Armitage, who currently stars in HBO's "Big Little Lies," is set to play young Sheldon, according to The Wrap.

One of the actors and actresses who will take part in the "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 prequel is Zoe Perry, who will play Sheldon's mother. It should be noted that Perry's real-life mother Laurie Metcalf plays the same role in the flagship series. Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Montana Jordan will also be part in yet to be named roles.

"The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 prequel is created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. Jon Favreau will executive produce and direct the first episode of the series. Parsons himself will also have a role in the series as the show's narrator, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The announcement of the spin-off series comes after the flagship program was declared the number one comedy in primetime television. "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 premiere episode in September drew a total of 15.8 million viewers, according to CNN. As to where the prequel will be placed, fans will have to wait until May when the network announces its lineup of shows this fall during the Upfronts in New York City.

CBS boss Les Moonves has also revealed that the cast are currently going under negotiations to renew their contracts for two more seasons. "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 airs in CBS on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
