'Prison Break' Season 5's Debut Episode Brought in Some Unexpected Turn of Events; Some Fans Find It Silly

Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) continues his quest with Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) in "Prison Break" season 5 when the series premiered on April 4. It is the original series continuation and it has received mixed reviews from fans and critics. The series' reviews state that while it picks up the core concepts and cliffhangers in its comeback, bringing the old-timers back as well as its frantic action are not good enough.

Also known as "Prison Break: Resurrection," the series picked up after Michael's presumed death and showrunners build up a story of its original characters. Most people were made to believe that Michael is already dead but T-Bag Bagwell (Robert Knepper) after seven long years revealed that the former is actually alive. Apparently, Michael is spending his entire years in Yemen, where he is again imprisoned and covered with tattoos that will lead to his escape.

When his plan that involves an ISIS leader went wrong, Michael turns to his plan B, which fans find it complicated to tailor with the history of "Prison Break." The story was explained with outlandish turn of events that includes a mechanical prosthetic arm, an assassin and encounters with the world's largest terrorist group. Naturally, with Michael's imprisonment once again and his attempts to get rescued, Lincoln is the one who will be saving him.

The showrunners' effort of bringing fans a more exciting and nerve-racking "Prison Break" appears to have slightly failed to impress the viewers. Some fans say that its unexpected turn of events is somewhat ridiculous given the show's history. Nonetheless, Variety reports that the show's ratings when it premiered were fairly good. In the demo, the series scored a 1.5 rating with 3.8 million viewers.

According to Deadline, "Prison Break" season 5's debut episode rating went down by 44 percent in the demo compared to its season 4 premiere in September 2008. However, it is up about three tenths from season 4 finale in May 2009.
