Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch may still return for "Sherlock" Season 5, as actor Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty, revealed in an interview that the show has not yet been cancelled. Per RadioTimes.com, the actor said that the season 4 finale ended in such a way that it could function as a season finale as well as a series ender.

"We're not doing [Sherlock] for another couple of years," he said. "Everybody got quite busy, you know?"

Scott's statements echo those of Cumberbatch and series creator Steve Moffat's sentiments about "Sherlock" Season 5. In an earlier interview with GQ, Cumberbatch explained that season four would have to be "the last one - for now" given their busy schedules, reports Metro.

Back then, Cumberbatch already had a handful of projects including "Doctor Strange" and he has recently landed a new drama on BBC. Freeman has several commitments with other shows and projects, which makes it hard for them to commit to "Sherlock" Season 5.

As most fans can recall, it took quite a long time before season 4 aired on BBC. A Christmas special aired in between seasons three and four, but it looks like fans will have to sit down and wait till Cumberbatch, Freeman and the rest of the cast can reunite for "Sherlock" Season 5.
