Talks of a "Yuri On Ice" season 2 have been going on and on ever since the first installment wrapped up back in December 2016. However, it seems like the wait for the sequel is far from over now that the "Yuri On Ice" movie is slated to happen soon.

With the instant success of "Yuri On Ice," many expected that a sequel of the hit the Japanese sports anime television series is definitely a done deal. But when Crunchyroll revealed that the "Yuri On Ice" movie was announced at Chiba's Maihama Amphitheater for a Yuri!!! On Stage event.

It has been previously reported that many were expecting that the "Yuri On Ice" season 2 release date and trailer will be revealed at the event. As it turned out, fans were given a rather different surprise instead! Speaking to Otaquest, creator Sayo Yamamoto shared their idea on Yuri Katsuki's story.

"I truly feel like the story of ‘Yuri!!! on ICE’ was able to be summed up over the course of it’s 12 episodes, but I’d be lying if I said that it was over. [Laughs]," she said. "We can’t stop, we won’t stop, we refuse to stop!"

Clearly, the story of Yuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov, Yuri a.k.a. Yurio Plisetsky and the rest of the cast are definitely far from over. But now that the creators are focusing their time and effort on the highly-anticipated "Yuri On Ice" movie, "Yuri On Ice" season 2 is expected to be off the priority list for now.

Based on the announcement, the upcoming original film is still probably in its early stages, so a "Yuri On Ice" movie release date still remains a mystery as of the moment. Keep it here in Celebeat for more updates about "Yuri On Ice" release date and "Yuri On Ice" season 2 air date!
