The "Vikings" Season 5 air date is still a mystery despite production being almost completed on the last few episodes. However, there are speculations that the series will be back early this summer so the first half of the fifth season could premiere ahead of "Game of Thrones" Season 7. Is History hoping to avoid any conflicts with the HBO show?

CeleBeat has previously reported on the possibility that the "Vikings" Season 5 air date could be set for summer. After all, the cast and crew of the series have been hard at work on the fifth season since last year. Fans have been hoping that the fifth season will premiere soon since many are excited for Jonathan Rhys-Meyer's character Heahmund. Is it possible that the first 10 episodes of the History series will air before "Game of Thrones" Season 7?

The fourth season of "Vikings" has been the first one that was commissioned for 20 episodes (the previous three only had 10 episodes each). However, it will not be the last; "Vikings" Season 5 has been confirmed for 20 episodes as well. There are speculations that the first half of the upcoming season will air in early June while the back end of the show might premiere in fall. This way, the series will not air at the same time as "Game of Thrones" Season 7.

There are no updates yet on the "Vikings" Season 5 air date but fans are keeping their fingers crossed on the possibility that the show will be back soon. In the meantime, "Game of Thrones" could be getting several different spinoff shows, as per Variety. Some believe that one of the new shows will be based on George R.R. Martin's "Dunk and Egg" stories, which are also set in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" universe. There are also speculations that another series will follow the events of Robert Baratheon's Rebellion, which led to Robert taking the Iron Throne. "Game of Thrones" Season 7 will premiere on July 16.
