In May 2017, "Chicago Fire" was renewed for season 6 and although it would be too early to talk about the next installment, most fans are already wondering what the future holds for Taylor Kinney's Severide. The charismatic lieutenant is trying to cope up with the death of his love interest, Anna, who died in season 5 after her battle with cancer. The previous season ended with a cliffhanger and the lieutenant of Firehouse 51's fate remains in question. Fans can't help but wonder whether or not he is still returning to the show after Anna's death.

Lieutenant Kelly Severide has made poor decisions in "Chicago Fire," which put everyone's lives in danger. However, as CarterMatt points out, he surprisingly handled Anna's death better than everyone thought. Despite that, many fans are still thinking if the lieutenant could still handle the future now that Anna's gone. Although others believe that he would still survive next season, there are speculations that he may not really last.

Severide is known for being a ladies' man in "Chicago Fire," which is in contrast to his friend Lieutenant Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) of Truck 81. Before meeting Anna, he was first engaged to Renee Whaley but called it off after she cheated on him. He also dated Atty. Renée Royce (Sarah Shahi) and Det. Erin Lindsay from "Chicago PD." He then met Brittany Baker, whom he married in season 3, much to his colleagues' surprise.

In "Chicago Fire" season 3, Brittany broke up with Severide and he later developed a romantic interest in April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) of "Chicago Med." However, they later broke up and the Firehouse 51 lieutenant met Anna, a pediatrician of Springfield Hospital. His latest love interest appears to have put a huge impact on him, leaving fans to believe that he may not survive in season 6.

However, "Chicago Fire" Derek Haas appears to have confirmed on Twitter that Taylor Kinney's Severide might find another love interest next season although, it seems that he was only messing around. "5. He's gonna finally settle down," he replied to a fan's question. "Hahhahaha. I couldn't say that with a straight face. He's not."
