Debbie Rowe gave testimony that ex-husband Michael Jackson's frequent trips to the doctor were motivated more by drug addiction than medical assistance, The Huffington Post reported Thursday.
Rowe was in court to testify as part of the lawsuit involving Katherine Jackson and AEG Live LLC. AEG Live LLC was the promoter of Michael's 2009 This Is It Tour. Michael died June 25, 2009 of a drug overdose and his mother is suing the promoter as being a contributing factor to his death.
"I didn't understand why he would come in twice in one week," Rowe said. "I didn't necessarily see what he wanted to have done."
Rowe said that she never saw the King of Pop engaging in any doctor shopping. She added that many of his visits had to do with his skin condition vitiligo and the lasting scars he had after being burned in a 198 Pepsi commercial.
"When it came to the pain ... it was more begging for relief than anything," Rowe said. "He respected doctors so he wouldn't question what they were doing."
Rowe was friends with Michael for many years before they married in 1996 and divorced in 1999. They had two children, Prince Michael and Paris. This past summer, Paris attempted suicide. Rowe explained what the loss of her father has done to the 15-year-old teenager.
"She is devastated," Rowe said. "She tried to kill herself. She is devastated. She has no life. She doesn't feel she has a life anymore."
