Season two of "The Walking Dead" ended with some big surprises. Fans witnessed the death of a couple main characters, and in the season finale met a brand new one, sword fighting Michonne. The AMC series, based off of Robert Kirkman's graphic novels, is now letting fans of the show get a sneak peak of another new character, the Governor.

In Kirkman's graphic novels, the Governor is a villain, and becomes Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) greatest enemy. TV Guide describes the background of the character in the novels as "the vicious leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors."

On the TV screen the Governor will be portrayed by David Morrissey. The photo of Morrissey as the Governor has surfaced on TVGuide.com. The picture shows a hard faced Morrissey wearing tan pants with a gun holster, a long sleeve button up shirt and a leather vest. Morrissey is standing in front of a white SUV with another male, who also appears to be holding quite a few weapons on him.

Another photo has surfaced on Fangoria.com that doesn't give a clear shot of the Governor, but does give viewers a glimpse of who could be riding shot gun in the white SUV with him. The Fangoria photo shows the same car seen behind the Governor's photo on TV Guide with Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) in the passenger's seat. A fake arm (which also looks like it could double as a weapon), is visible where Merle's right arm should be.

Fans of the series will remember that Merle was left handcuffed on a department store roof in Atlanta. The department store had become overrun with zombies, and when the group returned to the roof top to see if Merle was still alive they only found the handcuffs and his severed hand.

Merle made a brief appearance in season two when his brother Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) began hallucinating in the woods after becoming injured.

The series has left Merle's plot line open, and judging from the pictures, it seems as if Merle has been hanging out in Woodbury with the Governor after his Atlanta roof top incident.

While we know the Governor will be a villain, it is unsure how closely the series will follow Kirkman's graphic novels. Whatever route the series decides to go, Kirkman seems to be supportive of. "Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways," Kirkman told TVGuide.com. "And David Morrissey totally rocks!

I think it is pretty safe to say that Merle (who is bound to be a little ticked off with Rick's group of survivors) is going to be a good evil sidekick to Morrissey's Governor.
