Someone is pulling out an axe on "Dexter." Executive producer Sara Colleton revealed to fans that the Showtime series is meeting its end with season eight.

Colleton talked with TV Guide not only about the shows demise, but the upcoming season seven.

The finale of season six found blood spatter analyst/ serial-killer Dexter with his secret exposed. As Dexter brutally killed Travis, it was revealed that Deb was in the room with him, planning to tell him that she loved him. Watching Dexter murder someone kind of put a damper on the mood though.

Season seven will see Dexter struggle with his now open secret, and how his sister reacts. Unfortunately, Dexter will also have the cops back on his trail even if his sister does keep quiet, since Travis' killing suggests that the Bay Harbor Butcher has returned.

Colleton told TV Guide that Deb knowing of Dexter's hidden life is going to be a "game-changer."

The executive-producer explained that this season will about Dexter's experiencing feelings he's never felt before, "regret, responsibility, shame, betrayal, all of those things." At the same time, she explained that everyone's favorite serial killer will also be feeling a sense of freedom since someone now knows.

Dexter's feelings might be changing, but what about Deb's? Season six found her coming to realize that she was "in love" with her foster brother, but seeing him murder someone might change her feelings towards him. "So now what does she do?" asks Colleton. "Does she turn him into the police? Is she repulsed by him? Can she continue to love him?" Since Deb is the head of the homicide division, this issue is really going to be a challenge for her.

For fans hoping for the foster siblings to finally get together, hope may still exist. "I always go back to one of the very first scenes in the pilot when he goes, "Oh that's my foul-mouthed sister Deb and if I could love anyone it would be Deb,'" the executive producer teases of the relationship.

As for the end of the series, Colleton shockingly revealed that they wanted season seven to be the end.

"We wanted to end it this year, but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years," she explained. "In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it's going to end."

"Dexter" hasn't even begun its seventh season, so viewers have plenty of time to come to terms with their loss. Season seven of "Dexter" begins on September 30th.
