'General Hospital' Veteran John Ingle Dies At 84

John Ingle, the patriarch of the Quartermaine family on the long-running ABC series "General Hospital" died Sunday Sept.16.  He was 84 years old.

The actor's family eulogized him on a Facebook post that read:

"Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts. You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

"General Hospital" executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed the actor's passing on Twitter, writing:

"With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle's passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be part of the #GH family."

Ingle - who played the surly Edward Quatermaine  on "General hospital" since 1993 made his last appearance on the show just last week. He also had a short stint on the soap drama Days of Our Lives from 2004-2006.

He appeared in TV shows like Big Love, The Office, The Land Before Time, The Drew Carey Show, Melrose Place, Beverly Hills, 90210.

Ingle is survived by his five children with late wife Grace-Lynne Martin - who died earlier this year.
