Supermodel Brooke Burke Announces Thyroid Surgery That Will Leave Scar Across Her Neck [VIDEO]

Brooke Burke, the 41-year-old supermodel and supermom, has announced that she's battling thyroid cancer. Burke made the announcement through The ModernMom's YouTube channel. It appears that the video announce was shot from Brooke Burke's bedroom.

"Hey, guys. Some of you may have read some recent news that I put out there several months ago about a nodule on my thyroid when I was having a biopsy done. I'm really sorry I didn't follow up...," says Burke in the beginning of the video. The supermodel goes on to tell her fans that she'll be having thyroid surgery to receive a thyroidectomy. In order for the surgery to take place, an incision must be carefully made across Burke's neck.

"I'm going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck, and [I won't] get to walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up..." says Burke in the video.

"I've booked my surgery. It's taken me a couple of months to wrap my head around this... I didn't even tell my mom, and I didn't really tell anyone [at first]... Now, I'm good. I'm ready to deal with it, and I'm going to be fine," she says.

Thyroid cancer is less common than other types of cancer, but in woman, thyroid cancer is still a big risk. Thyroid cancer risk is high for women, people of Asian descent and people between the ages 25-65 according to the National Institutes of Health. The thing that makes this a "happily ever after kind of story" as Burke describes it is because survival is high. CNN reports that there's almost 100 percent survival rate, but that's dependent on doctors identifying the cancer early.
