Prince Slams Madonna In Billboard Magazine, Reigniting Old Feud

Prince slammed Madonna in an interview with Billboard Magazine.

The singer is interviewed for a cover story in the latest issue of the magazine. The writer asked Prince what went wrong in his relationship with Warner Brothers Records.

"It was always about Madonna," he said, per US Weekly. "She was getting paid, but at the same time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights."

According to Zap2It, Prince believes his later releases for Warner Brothers were unsuccessful because the company marketed them improperly. So, he simply began releasing albums quickly so he could fulfill his requirements from his contract and leave the label as quickly as possible.

As Hollywood Gossip notes, Prince and Madonna actually dated during the 1980s and collaborated on the track "Love Song" from Madonna's "Like a Prayer" album.

However, the two then began a nasty feud, as the "Like a Virgin" singer referred to Prince as a "little troll" in an interview, per Rolling Stone. She also stated that she was annoyed by his refusal to eat during their dinner dates.

Prince replied back years later.

"I got so many hits y'all can't handle me," he told the crowd during a 2007 concert. "I got more hits than Madonna's got kids."

Before Prince slammed Madonna in this interview, it did seem that the feud was cooling off. Perez Hilton reported in 2011 that Madonna was seen at Prince's Madison Square Garden show, fuelling speculation that the two were friends again.

Madonna was not the only artist slammed by Prince in this interview. Prince also attacked Maroon 5 for covering his hit song "Kiss."

"Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did?" Prince said, per E! Online. "Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there."
