New details have emerged in the death of Gia Allemand who died Wednesday after she committed suicide.

Mike Simpson, an engineer, revealed to PEOPLE what he witnessed on Monday. He was going to the pool area of his New Orleans complex when a loud noise captured his attention. Simpson believed someone was calling for help.

"I pushed the door open and saw a guy bear-hugging someone to his chest," Simpson said.

Simpson saw NBA player Ryan Anderson. Anderson had just discovered Allemand's body.  She was barely clinging on to life.

"He said, 'She hung herself,' and I looked over and that's when I saw the rope," Simpson said.

After a 911 call was placed, CPR was performed on the 29-year-old Allemand. Simpson said that Anderson kept sobbing and asking why she would do something like this. He estimated that it took eight minutes before EMT arrived.

"He asked how long she had been like this, and the boyfriend said, 'I was gone for an hour and I came home and she was like this.' He didn't say it calmly. He said something to the effect of, 'I wasn't gone for more than an hour,' "Simpson said. "I just remember thinking, he is just so distraught."

A memorial service is being planned in New York for Allemand.
