Robin Thicke: 'Blurred Lines' Hitmaker Offered Six Figure Settlement to Marvin Gaye Family

The family of Marvin Gaye was offered a six figure settlement by Robin Thicke over his anthem Blurred Lines according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In an article published Friday, it was noted that Billboard had learned that Thicke's team offered the members of Marvin Gaye's family a settle to prevent any copyright challenge. Blurred Lines and Gaye's Got to Give It Up have been marked for their similar beats.  The alleged payoff came to be after Frankie Christian Gaye, Marvin Gaye III and Nona Marvisa Gaye accused Thicke of plagiarism. However, the offer was turned down.

In turn, Thicke filed a preemptive lawsuit on August 16. He asked a judge to declare that there was no copyright infringement between the two songs. He also wanted to prevent the Gaye family from collecting any royalties. Gaye III appeared on TMZ Live Wednesday. He was not pleased by the actions and said a counter lawsuit was pending.

"Our point is that there's a way to do business and a way not to do business. We're not happy with the way he went about doing the business, let alone suing us over something where he clearly got his inspiration from at the least. That's caused my family a lot of due duress, and myself also. I'm under kidney failure, as well as I'm promoting my own album. I have better things to do than to be sitting here trying to defend my father's legacy, which I'm glad to do cause that's my position," he said.
