Dr. Luke will not be joining American Idol after according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On Monday, the site published an exclusive about the music producers intentions with the Fox singing competition.  Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, would have faced a conflict of interest with Sony music by helping to develop talent for Universal Music. A source close to the hit maker said he realized that joining Idol would have been too much of a commitment on his time.

"He really loves his artists and wants to build up the label," a source said. "Luke wants to build an entertainment company ... after a lot of conversations, both Luke and Sony Music CEO Doug Morris came to the mutual agreement that taking Dr. Luke out of the Idol running "was the best thing for all parties."

Determining who will participate on the upcoming season of American Idol has played out in the press since Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson announced their exits in May. However, last week, it was reported that Jackson could possibly return.

Deadline claimed that Jackson, a former judge on the show, would return as the in house mentor. He would replace Jimmy Iovine who has served in the capacity for the past three years. Iovine joined in Season 10 after Simon Cowell left. The Brit was poised to fill the role of a no nonsense man of stature in the industry.
