Michael Jackson’s Family Loses as Jury Rejects Wrongful Death Lawsuit

A Los Angeles jury has dismissed the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Michael Jackson's family against tour promoter AEG Live for his 2009 death, according to a report by ABC.

The jury deliberated for three days but reading the verdict lasted for only minutes.

The AEG Live lead lawyer welcomed the verdict saying, "The jury's decision completely vindicates AEG Live, confirming what we have known from the start - that, although Michael Jackson's death was a terrible tragedy, it was not a tragedy of AEG Live's making."

AEG Live executive Randy Phillips said: "I counted Michael Jackson a creative partner and a friend." Phillips also testified at the trial.

"We lost one of the world's greatest musical geniuses, but I am relieved and deeply grateful that the jury recognised that neither I, nor anyone else at AEG Live, played any part in Michael's tragic death," he added.

50-year-old Jackson died on June 25, 2009 due to an overdose of anesthetic propofol given by Murray. At that time, Jackson was in his rented mansion in Los Angeles and was rehearsing for his This Is It tour.

Murray was convicted in a criminal trial in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter for giving the drug to Jackson to help him sleep.

Murray was jailed for four years.
