Shelly Altman, one of the new head writers of Young and the Restless, has given a preview of where the show is headed to On Air With Soaps.

The site published the article on Wednesday and delved into where Altman planned on taking the show. Altman and Jean Passanante were named the official replacements of Josh Griffith who left the CBS soap opera this past summer amid reported creative differences. Altman said that one of the primary objectives was to make the storylines more cohesive on the 40-year-old daytime show.

"We want to integrate the generations a bit more by moving some of the younger characters into story, and have them crossover with some of the core legacy characters," Altman said.

Altman addressed the controversial storyline where Dylan has been revealed as the long lost son of socialite Nikki. Some fans had accused the show of rewriting history. She denied the charge.

"There are going to be further twists down the line that will be again, we are not re-writing history in any shape or form, but rather honoring the history of the show with this story. But, that had been the game plan ... that we were looking for a story for Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki, and obviously this will affect both of them greatly, and to also further root Dylan onto the canvas," she said.

Altman also taken on the fan outage that resulted from Chloe and Billy's daughter , Delia, dying from a hit and run accident. Social media lit up with anger over the decision to kill off the child.

"It is the ultimate human drama for people to have to deal with.  Soaps are in the business of family drama, and it's the biggest tragedy anyone should have ever to deal with ... you should not be burying your own child.  The stories it will create for the relationships of almost everybody on the canvas are huge," she said.
