A police chief in Knightstown, Ind would like to be shot in order to raise money, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Knightstown police Chief Danny Baker has employed a variety of methods in order to raise funds in response to budget cuts. He has needed $9,000 for a new squad car, but a golf tournament and pig roast did not help him reach his goal. Therefore, he is now offering himself up to be shot by a stun gun.

The 63-year-old planned to have a fellow officer shoot him with a stun gun at a free event in one of the town's middle schools. The event will be free. However, Baker hoped that people would offer donations once they saw how 50,000 volts of low-amp electricity impacts the body.

"It's a shame we have to go to the extent of having fundraisers and getting electrified and so forth, but with small-town budgets you have to do something to get by," Baker said.

Baker acknowledged that his method was extreme. Nonetheless, he felt that the depiction of using a stun gun would provide a benefit to the community.

"We're not using it to play with, we're using it as a training tool," he said. "It's going to be quite visible - the pain in my body - and if there are kids there, they're going to see this and their parents can sit down and say, 'See, if you mess up and don't do what the police tell you to do, that's going to be you.'"
